We are taking the reconstruction of the Penguin as serious as a heart attack! To prove the point, our primary contractor had a heart attack on the job last Monday morning. After getting two new stents that afternoon, he was back on the job today deconstructing the old Penguin store.
We continue to visit everyone’s favorite bookstores everywhere we travel. This past week, we visited the Bookworm near Vail, Colorado on a recommendation from a booklover in Sewickley. It was a beautiful new store and the owner’s shared valuable information about their operations.
Last year, when we were in Aspen, we were disappointed to hear that the Explore bookstore and property were up for sale for $5.5 million because the owner had died. Lucky for Aspen, a family came forward and saved the bookstore like the McDanels have done for the Penguin. We were so happy to spend a couple of hours meandering through one of our favorite bookstores that was stuffed with wonderful books and had the same cozy look and feel.
We are thrilled to have our new bookstore manager, Leah Lindemann, on board. Now, we can broaden our focus from construction matters to the bookstore itself. We are off and running.
